I had occasion to go for a fancy family lunch recently and it dawned on me that I have no idea whatsoever where you get fancy lunch from. So, I made a few calls, got a few suggestions and ended up in Pichet.
The inside is weird, the blue space chairs and grey colour scheme combined with the awnings and breezy café vibe create a Buck Rogers meets a French bistro feel.
I wasn’t absolutely mad about my starter, a cold-vinegary-crab-mush-ball thing with a crispy heel of toast, that probably had a nicer name on the menu, but left me wanting somewhat.
The main was delicious, an impeccably tender rib-eye of beef that has got my mouth watering just thinking about it, with chips. The chips, again, left something to be desired and the dish would’ve been nicer without them to be honest.
Yeah, a nice comfortable spot for lunch on a special occassion, Pichets might lack in the pedigree of Shanahans or Fitzers but it makes up for it by being quite a bit cooler. I would definitely book in advance but you may be okay to chance your arm mid-week.
